🗞️ A Moment for the Workplace
A couple of months ago, the modern workplace as we know it was hit with yet another round of layoffs. This time the company affected was Atlassian - a leading global software company providing collaboration, development, and work management tools like Jira, Confluence, Trello, and Loom.
In early March, Atlassian announced that it would be cutting roughly 1600 jobs, equating to approximately 10% of its workforce. This decision was made in an effort to assign more resources in a pivot towards artificial intelligence. This is a company that’s worth a calm $20 billion USD, and has raised over $200M in funding.
Why is this moment critical to the workplace?
One of the largest software companies in the world publicly announced a massive shift of resources towards AI, while jobs that humans were holding down took the hit. This shows now more than ever, that upskilling is incredibly important to ensure individuals have multiple avenues to achieve workplace success.
There is understandbly some worry amongst early-career professionals about what consistent news like this does to the landscape of future work and future careers. And after a chat with Alex Shiell, Co-Founder of the Creative Innovative Network, we knew what we needed to do.

Join us at RMIT!
We're hosting a public speaking and confidence workshop in collaboration with RMIT student organisation, WIBE (Women in Built Environments).
This event is open to all university students who are looking to improve their soft skills to really boost their employability, as well as learn key skills that can set you apart in the workplace. There will also be a chance to network and mingle with industry professionals, a real chance to put your newly learnt skills to the test!

Future of Work Event: Hue Skills x Creative Innovative Network
This event will bring together early to mid-career professionals to explore the future of work through the lens of those shaping it. Attendees will hear directly from leading voices across AI & technology, talent & recruitment, and people, culture & wellbeing, gaining practical insights and answers to the questions that matter most for their careers ahead.
Beyond the content, the event creates a dedicated space for emerging professionals to grow their networks, connect with peers, and build meaningful relationships that support their long-term career development.
We’re looking to run this event in August, with more information including registration, dates and speakers coming very soon!
